What does a typical session look like?
Learning the content - Each session begins with clear explanations of new concepts, worked examples on the board, and meaningful demonstrations.
Guided Practice - Students then work individually on set problems with one-on-one support provided as needed.
Targeted Practice Paper - Sessions conclude with a 30-minute practice paper completed under exam-style conditions. These are marked after the session, with solutions and personalised feedback provided by email before the next lesson. Each practice paper is tailored to the individual student's current level, meaning that different students within the same class can get different papers.
Why do all sessions end with a practice test?
Builds real exam readiness - students experience the timing, pressure and structure of actual exams, reducing anxiety and boosting confidence.
Promotes accountability - regular practice makes students responsible for applying what they've learned rather than passively re-reading notes.
Provides targeted feedback - marking and discussion of practice responses quickly reveals strengths and gaps that aren't obvious in classwork.
Supports mastery learning - students practise until they can reliably demonstrate understanding, not just until the content has been "covered."
Improves problem-solving fluency - repeated exposure to different styles of questions helps students recognise patterns and apply the right strategies.
Strengthens recall - retrieval practice (actively pulling information from memory) is one of the most effective ways to consolidate understanding.
Personalises learning - each practice exam highlights an individual student's needs, allowing tutoring sessions to be tailored for maximum impact.
Builds exam technique - students learn how markers award marks, how to structure responses, and how to avoid common pitfalls.
Shows measurable progress - students can see their improvement over time, which boosts motivation and confidence.
What is different about Castle Hill Physics Tutoring compared to larger tutoring companies?
At Castle Hill Physics Tutoring, students aren't just one of many in a crowded room - they receive genuinely personalised, high-quality teaching. Some key differences include:
Small class sizes (maximum of 6 students) - This ensures every student gets individual attention, the chance to ask questions, and the support they need to build confidence.
A qualified teacher rather than a uni student - Your child is taught by someone with formal training in education and psychology, plus real classroom teaching experience. This means lessons are structured, behaviour is well-managed, and explanations are designed for how students actually learn.
Personalised learning - Lessons, practice tasks, and feedback are tailored to each student's current level, helping them move toward mastery at an appropriate pace. This is only possible in small group settings.
Consistent, reliable teacher - Students aren't rotated between tutors. They learn from the same experienced educator each week which builds trust and continuity.
Exam-style practice built into every session - Regular, tailored practice under realistic conditions helps students strengthen recall, refine their problem-solving skills, and track their progress.
